The Here and Now

Change is inevitable,
including changing our minds.

Instead of thinking that we have to stick to the persona that we've built in the past,
don't be afraid to be who you are now - in the present.

Write Everyday

I'm trying to practice my handwriting, cursive and calligraphy everyday.

Here's today's! It's the title and lyrics of a song by Broken Bells.
I love the sound of the song.
It seems to have a 70's influence, and I gotta say, I'm loving it. (Suddenly this feels like a McDonald's commercial.)

I've noticed other bands, as well, incorporating that 70's style sound in their songs.

Is it your thing?

How To Save At STARBUCKS

"It costs HOW MUCH?!"

We may not say it out loud, but we all think it at one point or another.

High prices hit some harder than others, but no matter what tax bracket you're in, we all want to save.

There are still some tricks and tips out there that can help you do just that!

STARBUCKS -
It's a weakness for many, myself included. Unfortunately, it's also a drain on the wallet.
If you tend to order regular drip coffee with cream/milk, here's a money saving tip for you:

Less Is More!

Order one size smaller than you normally would, but ask for it in the larger cup size.

"In a Tall cup, I would like a Short Pike, please."

(Side Note: For those of you that don't know, there is a size smaller than Tall!
It's called a Short.
It's not really featured, so not a lot of customers know about it.)

This automatically gives you "room". After you add your cream/milk, depending on how much you take, you're basically back to the same size as a Tall, but for the price of a Short!
 This also prevents the barista from pouring some of your paid-for coffee down the drain to give you "room".
That's my money going down the drain!
You could do this with any two sizes:

"In a Grande cup, I would like a Tall True North, please."

Have you picked up any money saving tips and tricks for STARBUCKS? Share them in the comments!

The Goal!

I've been trying to get the word out about the purpose of my shop:
All shop profits go towards my goal of volunteering in Belize!

To help me get the word out, I tried tweeting Maxwell Glick, who played Mr. Collins on The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. He was sweet enough to retweet my shop to his followers, and gave it a great review!  (https://twitter.com/maxwellglick ,

Sherlock Candleholder

UPDATE!! My SHERLOCK Candleholder is NOW AVAILABLE to purchase at my shop!

~~~
I had the idea of tracing any simple image or text onto clear glass.
Today I *finally* tried it.
I decided to go with one of my very favorite characters,
Sherlock Holmes;
his silhouette and a quote,
"Amazing how fire exposes our priorities."
- A Scandal in Belgravia, SHERLOCK
It worked!
I'm very happy with how it turned out,
and am excited to keep experimenting ^_^
This design and more will soon be available on my shop!
www.etsy.com/shop/TheArtOfWriting
I thought I'd share my success,
in case you'd like to give it a go!
Materials:
*Clear Glass (i.e. candle holder, vase)
*Print your text and/or image
*Scissors (to cut out your print-out)
*Tape (to stick print-out to glass)
*Paint Pen (I used Sharpie Oil Based Paint pens, black, in Fine Point and Extra Fine Point)
*Rubbing Alcohol and tissue (to remove any mistakes)
Drying and Baking Instructions:
Allow paint to dry for at least 1 hour (I usually allow longer).
Place in a cool oven.
This is VERY IMPORTANT!
DO NOT pre-heat the oven.
Set at 450 F (230 C) for 20 minutes.
When the 20 minutes is done, turn the oven off,
but DO NOT remove the glass!
Wait until the oven has completely cooled,
and then remove.
I know you can't really see it here, but there is a
printed profile/image that I'm tracing over.
(I waited to long to start taking pictures. Sorry!)
I printed the text that I wanted, then taped
it to the inside. The font is Verdana.
Here is the text, partially traced.
For this, I used the Extra Fine Point paint pen.
